This is England

Shane Meadows' latest look at life in the north of England is an uncompromising story about a young boy 'adopted' by a group of skinheads. I am a huge fan of this director and I feel that this is his best yet. Meadows' has drawn on his own early experiences and uses the story to discuss some disturbing moments from his own involvement in the skinhead movement.

Every single castmember puts in an excellent performance, but worth of the most praise is Tomo Turgoose. He was 13 when he was cast as Shaun, he is in every scene in the film and had never acted before.

The film is beautifully shot, washed-out colours seem fitting for the period. Also, this has one of the most intense credits sequences I've ever seen - Toots & The Maytals, Roland Rat and The Falklands.

I urge everyone to see this film as soon as possible, keep it in the UK Box Office Top 10 so cinemas will continue to run it.
